Hi everyone.
I did a clean delete and re-install of a windows xp. Everything runs fine but the problem is the resolution is stuck at 640 x 480. I went to the "monitor" tab in the "advanced" part of the "display" screen. The only thing that shows up is something called "Default monitor", and I cannot click on properties since it's greyed out. The troubleshoot said to click on properties and then update drivers, but since I cannot click on properties, I am unable to do that. I went ahead and downloaded the driver(s) for my monitor, but I still run into the same issue. Also, when I go to "device manager", there is no "display adapters" option to expand/click on. I really have no idea what to do. It seems like my computer just won't update or recognize this monitor and has it stuck on some default settings.
If it helps, my computer is a Dell PC, Dimension 3000, and the monitor is a E153FP.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you!

You have no video drivers installed. Don't worry too much about the driver for the monitor.
your video driver is located :
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...The problem is that there are 3 distinctive choices and you must make the correct one and since the video card is not shown in device manager means that you must resort to finding out what you have in other ways.
the first choice would be to google for SIW and download it and run it on that computer. Hopefully it will tell you which one you have.
If not then google for "unknown device finder and download it and run it on that computer and try to determine what you have.
Once you KNOW what video you have then download the correct driver from the dell site and it should download as a self extracting, self installing file so just double click it and install the driver. Then reboot your computer and the found new hardware wizard will install everything for you!

In Device Manager, remove the current display adapter then reboot. This should force Windows to redetect the display adapter and install Driver.
If you did not install Windows from a Dell Restore CD or HDD partition, this probably will not work. Then you are stuck with Manual ID and driver install, as previously advised.
There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

If there is no Display Adapter listed in Device Manager, the most likely thing is you installed Windows from a regular Windows CD but have not installed the drivers for the mboard yet. This is especially likely if the video you're using is on a card in a slot.
When the drivers for the mboard have been installed, you should have a display adapter of some type, at least a default standard type, listed there even before you install the drivers for the video.Whenever you load Windows from a regular Windows CD (or DVD) from scratch, after Setup is finished you must load the drivers for the mboard, particularly the main chipset drivers, in order for Windows to have the proper drivers for and information about your mboard hardware, including it's AGP or PCI-E, ACPI, and hard drive controller support. If you have a generic system and have the CD that came with the mboard, all the necessary drivers are on it. If you load drivers from the web, brand name system builders and mboard makers often DO NOT have the main chipset drivers listed in the downloads for your model - in that case you must go to the maker of the main chipset's web site, get the drivers, and load them.
If you have two monitor ports on a video card in a slot, you may need to make sure a single monitor is in the card's primary monitor port (if you're not sure, try the monitor in the other monitor port - do not change the connection when the computer is running).
If you have two monitor ports on a video card in a slot, if a single monitor is connected to the card, Windows in Display - Settings may show the monitor's connection as being on the primary adapter even when the monitor is connected to the card's secondary port, so you can't always go by that.
