Monitor resolution issues in XP

Whenever i load my computer, the monitor is fine up until it loads XP, after the loading screen, when it swtiches over to actually being in windows, the screen stretches really tall and thin and borwns out until it goes black. when i switch of my monitor and reset it, then turn it back on, it does the same thing again. i Think it's a resolution issue, becasue it works fine on my old computer (old as in 6 years old) and it works fine when i boot to safe mode. any ideas on how to fix it? thanks.

Hi Steven Try going into Safe Mode by jabbing the F8 key on startup, holding it down sometimes misses it. This loads a basic video driver and try changing the video mode from here. A friend of mime had a similar problem, but he had selected a video mode which he had clicked ok to, which a second later totally screwed up the display. Try a low resolution first. Hope this works.

WHen i loaded it in safe mode last night (and yes holding the f8 key didn't work too well) it showed fine and the monitor resolution was set to the lowest possible... but i didn't try changing anything else. How would i go about changing the vidoe mode? Is it in the same properties are as monitor resolution (right clicking on the background, and then selecting properties) or do i have to go through the control panel)?
Thanks

Don't forget to change the Hertz settings under the advanced> monitor tab. Lowering your resolution and displayed colours, but leaving to high a refresh rate will still cause problems.

why don't you try lowering/upping the refresh rate? Its under settings. Try setting it to 70 KHz or lower, then if that doesn't help try putting it higher.

If all else fails can you try another monitor or video card on your system because the fault may lie with video card and not with the monitor.
