monitor problems with new mobo

i've just installed a new mobo and when i switch on the pc the monitor automatically switches off. the pc seems to load ok from what i can hear. there are no error beeps or anything and the gree power led is on.
ive changed two graphics cards so it must be something else.
what could be the problem (mobo is VS440FX) manual here :

I had a similar problem with an ASUS A7V333 and an MSI MX460 dual monitor card. I found that setting BIOS settings back to default worked.

You might find that you also have a bad RAM stick, or a bad RAM slot on the board. This happened with my first A7V333, which I had to get replaced.

Is all of your hardware seated properly, jumpers set right, and connectors on the board accounted for?
