I have standby, hibernate, screen savers ect... turned off. I have reinistalled my video card drivers. My monitor is less than a year old and has always worked perfectly untill now. My monitor turns black and goes into stanby on its own. The PC is still on but it doesn't respond to any keyboard commands. I must reboot. Once I reboot it is back to good. I have looked in computer management. All drivers are working properly and the system shows no errors what so ever. Why can I not find some sort of error report for this annoyance? I do have all up2date service packs and securtiy software including firewall and antivirus and spyware killers.
What can I do to trouble shoot this? The only thing that has changed is the other day I got shocked with static shock when I went to turn it on last week. I have tested my memory and it seems fine. I only have this blank monitor in stanby issue once a day max and it doesn't seem to be heat related. Any suggestions?

This may be the answer to the problem you have with this monitor. Computers are very susceptible to electrostatic discharge (ESD). You should also test the system with a different monitor to ensure that there is absolutely no damage from ESD.

I have the same problem but my operating system is Windows 98. This problem started a few weeks ago for no rhyme or reason. IT is happening frequenly. Sometimes the mouse hangs first and computer stops responding or the screen goes black and goes in power saving mode and does not respond to commands like alt/cntl/delete. Pushing the power button in does nothing. You have to upplug the cord or turn the on/off switch in the back. Updates to 98 were put on 98 2 weeks prior to when problems started happening. Could it be the on board video card doing it??????

i have a similar but probably un-related problem with my laptop (on XP Home), it is only four months old yet, when i put it into standby, by closing the lid or going through the shutdown command it goes oonto standby fine, yet when the power button is pressed to wake it up, the power light comes on, the fans whirr at full capacity and there is repeated cd-rom drive activity, yet there is no image on the screen and no keyboard commands such as capslock or ctrl alt delete, the laptop must be turned off and run off batteries for startup and then changed over to the power cable for the laptop to successfully reboot, if standby is not used, the laptop works fine, its just very annoying and by physically turning the pc off damage to files may happen in the future, i dont know if this is a problem with one of the service packs but any help wold be much appreciated,
thanks,
chris
