Name: John
I am running a dual boot system with Win 98 SE and XP. In my win 98 OS, my modem dials and connects to the internet just fine. The same modem when I boot into my xp os, will not dial or make any noises. when I query the modem I do get back the info, and it is recognized. I do hear a little click sound, but then that is it. It will not dial my ISP's number. The modem is a creative labs modem blaster v.92 PCI, and I just downloaded and installed the latest drivers for xp from their site and still nothing. I know the modem works because win 98 uses it just fine. ????
?????? Any suggestions?????

John,
Try going into Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager, and see if modem is being recognized. In any case, uninstall it and restart the computer.
Then Setup the ISP S/W to dial out from this modem.
By the way who is your Internet Service Provider?

Thank you for anwering me so fast. The modem is being recognized in control panel, and I get the info back when I query it. The only think I have not tried is to delete the modem and then re-install it. The ISP I am using is info-dash out of Mt. Home Arkansas. I just don't understand why 98 can work just fine with it and xp can't.

Try using hyper terminal to test your modem.
start -> programs -->accessories --> communications --> hyper terminal.
click on hyperterminal then at the cursor type ATDT
If your modem is configurd right you should receive a reply "OK"Siri

Thank you for your suggestions. I will try the hyperterminal to test the modem and I will post the results here. By the way, Wombat, what do you mean by driver signing is the problem and the answer??? Can you explain that to me more in detail? Thanks,
John

if your modem driver doesnt have the xp logo in it it wont work then it can become difficult to install your driver thats y it doesnt work on xp but works on your other os the easyst way around driver sighning is to tick install anyway option then deleate your modem driver programme restart your commputer then let hardware wizard find your modem as new hardware then reinstall your driver then every thing should be ok LET US KNOW HOW U WENT

I've also just installed the V.92 modem in a fresh XP machine and encountered the same problems. However, if I don't use the Creative drivers and just choose XP's Generic 56K driver, it works fine. Wombat, I'm not sure I understand what you mean about deleting the driver program and then reinstalling? Could you clarify? Thanks.
