modem strange noise

Lately i keep losing my internet connection and i try to reconnect my modem makes a strange scratching noise i used to leave it on all night with no problem.my modem is pctel platinum v.90 modem. i already updated the modem, chance speed but i do not have a stable connection. i have two internet connection aol and netzero but i use aol more often.both when i lose connection make the strange scratching noise and does not connect. sometimes i have to reboot to get back on line. any help will be appreciated.

i had the same problem...many moons ago..there is "noise" on you telephone line...interfering with the connection...old wires can be the cause...not for nothing but...get DSL or cable
