Specs: Windows XP
For some reason, lately when i play/rip/burn a cd/dvd my modem (thomsons speedtouch 330) stops working. It says (in speedtouch software) i am still connected to the internet but i am not, at least i cant wiew any web pages and network assistant says there is connection. The left hand red light lights up. It says USB next to the light. I then have to re-start the computer to get it working again. My pc never used to do this, it started a few months ago except then it was just when i was burning or ripping. Now it happens when i play a disc too.

since the modem is connected via usb it would indicate you have a resource conflict concerning the sata/ide burner mainboard interface and that of the usb ports.

In the bios there is a setting that is always set to no but can be set to yes to reread the system resources. Each bios is different so I can't tell you where it is [usually in advanced or dealing with irqs/plug and play]. When in the bios disable resources you are not using like an intergrated modem/comm ports/lpt ports [if not used] to free up resources.
