Modem sound disappear

Something or somebody make remotely and out of my assent, a new
telephonic connection and turn off the sound of connection.
How I can replenish this property?
Excuse my english use. I speak spanish..

I´m sending once again, because, PC BOB give me, kindly, a solution for WIN 98 and I say since first message:
In "Properties of HSP56 MR (SIS)":
Speaker volume is activated

remove the modem in phone/modems in control panel, reboot, let windows reinstall properly

Check to see if the MODEM VOLUME is up.

Goto controlpanel\phone modem options. Click the modems tab. Highlight the modem you are using and click properties at the bottom. Again click the modem tab... you will see a volume control. Make sure it is turned up.
