I´ve installed XP pro but I can´t get a modem to connect. I have tried my internal isamodem and a external 33.6. Both get the message that there might interfering components but thats not it. It also says that the com port is locked by another application. What could that be?(In w98 and mandrake8.1 these work just fine, but I get similar problems trying w2K pro)Also my internal mod. makes XP set up another (virtual?) com3 and at first it sets the same irq and handlers and says they interfer. Ín w98 theres no com 3. I changed tu un occupied irq and handlers but the problem remains

I had the same problem before.Actually i have dual boot system win 98 and XP, well when i wanted to connect through xp to internet i always got the same message error # 609 or 619 i don'remember, saying that the port is close and i couldn't connect.XP was using the com 3.But through win 98 i could connect without any problems using the same com 3 and the same settings. Now i have the problem fixed. What did i do?Actually nothing, just reinstall win xp all over again and suddenly i had my PC connected to internet.I don't know if this will solve your problem but it did for me.Could be that during the installation process some files didn't installed properly, who knows.Just give it a try.Good luck!
