I am tryig to install a modem on an old computer. It plugs into the PCI slot fine but the computer does ot recogise that the modem is plugged in. Driver installs OK but 'no plug and play device located'

try the add new hardware wizard through control panel and see if you can locate the device and install it that way.

done that, got nothing! Should a standard interal modem just plug into any PCI slot?? Can a computer be too old to match? The computer is from 2000.

Dude, make sure it gets right in where it is supposed to be... sometimes I don't get it right too..

Try installing the modem in different slots, my old unit would only recognize it in the bottom one.

Try downloading the modem drivers from the manufacturers website.
Plug n play? Maybe, maybe not.
Manufacturers drivers are always better anyway.
