Sometimes when I am connected to the net on XP my modem seems to hang and won't upload or download anything. When this happens I can't even check it's status or disconnect so I have to restart my computer, I am using a Generic SoftK56 modem. Anyone know what the problem is?

Using the right driver probably will help, But I know how hard it can be to find the right driver. Do you know you made the modem?

I had the exact same modem with the exact same problem. (Sometimes the modem would also disconnect every 3 minutes.)
The driver provided by Microsoft's Windows Update doesn't seem to do the trick either. You need to go to the manufacturers web site (check with the driver disk you have..I can't remember the address) and download their latest version -- it's unsigned but it works.

I had an internal modem that didnt work after the upgrade from 2k. It was plug and played as a best data fax modem. I used the generic drivers from conexant that worked but intermitantly. Do you know the manufacturer? try a google search on the FCC or CE number, then try the manufacturers drivers.
Summary: My modem hangs after 5 minutes using dial-up. I upgraded from 2k and had no problems until I installed XP. Could this be a compatability issue with modem? ...
