modem disconnect

i got a us robotics 56k modem and every time i connect to compuserve i can hear the modem disconnecting after a few seconds.if i uninstall the modem from the device manager and reboot the pc then i can stay connected for as long as i need to but after i turn compuserve off and try to connect again it does it again so every time i'm going to connect i got to uninstall the modem and reboot .compuserve says there is nothing they can do about it please help and thanks in advance

I have sent this happen many times before. Not only connecting through compuserve but through various other dial up connections. My suggestion would be to add an init string to the dial up connection. More than likely you would want one to force maintain a dial up connection.
