hi I have a modem that connects by itself AVG dosnt pick anything up also it takes awhile nad is noisy when loading the desktop on a athlon 2.8 on wwin xp pro

do you use outlook or outlook express? there are sometimes settings in there that will cause the computer to connect to check for email. also any messenger programs that you might have installed, they could be causing the computer to try to connect. anything that may require updates and such may try to connect too for updates, check those. check any programs that may be running by ctrl+alt+del and see if there are any that may try to connect to the net for updates or such.
