Modem Connection Speed

I have a dial-up modem. I used to connect to the internet with 52.6 Kbps. Now I connect to 24.0 Kbps or Sometimes 21.6 Kbps. I would like a Initialization Command that could bring my Modem back to 52.6 Kbps. I have a Smartlink Modem and I would like to have faster internet that I used to have before.

No init string will improve your connection speed.
Has anything changed either on your pc or in your home which might've affected the connection speed? Any new phones/faxes been recently connected, or any new hardware in your pc?
Also in the UK, British Telecom sometimes use a system called DACS which basically means your analogue bandwidth is shared between you and your neighbour. I'm guessing from the time you posted that you're on the other side of the pond but I'm sure a similar system exists over there, so that could be the problem. BT are legally required to tell you if your line is a DACS line but they're not required to do anything about it. Not quite sure how the law stands in the US though. You could ask your telephone provider about this and also get them to a line check in case there's a fault on the line.
You could also try reinstalling your modem drivers, for what it's worth. Also check whether your ISP is having any problems.
Good luck.
