:-) its a connectivity issue. Faxing is done by telephone. How is your truck fax machine going to dial out?

Now if you can establish a wireless link like at a hotel or such you can "fax" from a laptop/perhaps your zire by sending to an online provider.

Your issue is how do you connect your equipment; how you get from your truck to a provider/service.

You mis-understand the problem. A fax is normally a phone line setup. The wi-fi you have is a internet setup. The way to get the two to talk is with a program or service that will convert the phone fax to a web enabled and then back to a phone.

I would be willing to guess that the trucking industry already has a common solution. It may be a company based setup. If you are a loner then the web based fax setup may be the best solution. Consider a mobile phone that might be used to send and receive faxes. They used to be out there. Dunno anymore.

Well I was curious to see what MS has to offer.

HERE is what they have through a third party vendor called scanR

From what I gathered the procedures isn't that simple but it should work if you desperately need it and you are willing to put up with the inconveniences. Who knows maybe there will be wireless fax once Vista is released.

I would suggest that you scan the document to a laptop that has a cell phone pc-card that supports GSM or above for fax service.

Might be a bluetooth adapter to match them up.

The question is if you really require a standard fax or do you just need to send an image or pdf file across any medium? Does the other side have the ability to receive what you send?

many trucking companies use GPS technology with QUELCOM for transmitting and recieving faxes.
