Hey all,

i just got a new gateway 820gm that came stock with 1gb 400mhz DDR ram. I have an old unused stick of 256mb PC2100 ram lying around and my question is - if i throw this into my machine, will the 400mhz ram run at the pc2100 speed (i.e. the lowest speed)? if so, i presume its probably not worthwhile to use this extra stick. what do you guys think?

Ram will only run as fast as the slowest stick,

But question is.. Your gaining 256, Will you notice the under clocked ram speed? Probably not.

I'd say you would notice the difference.
Leave it out is my opinion.

Aha! Yes, i guess thats the question. Is it better to have 1gb of 400mhz RAM or 1.25gb of 266mhz RAM?

Obviously this is a matter of opinion, I am curious to know what other people think!

Cheers!

Leave it out. I would rather see 1 gig of 400 DDR ram.

Actually though, for the best answer, you should post this in the General Hardware Forum
