For a while now I have been unable to get sound on my computer. A message comes up when I check the volume control saying that "there are no active mixer devices available. To install"... etc. I've tried system restore, I've even reinstalled Windows XP and it doesn't help. Can anybody help me?

right click my computer and then click propities. Then click dveice manger Somwhere down on the llist there will be a item like sound cards or somthing referring to sound. double click on that with the left mouse butotn.
Are there any item on that list with a yellow or red symbol by them if so right click that item and click update driver which is in the driver tab at the op of the box that appeared.
if you dont have any of those yellow or red sybols try duuisabling the sound card. By going back to device manger and then clicking once with the right mouse button on the item referiing to sound e/g sound cards. Then click disable nad restart your pc. on the restart the computer should say you have new hardware at this point make sure teh dirver disc is in, If you dont know what sound card you have or what river you need dowbload a computer diagostics program such as astra32 or sandard check out freeware sites such as WWW.nonags.com .This will tell you what sound card you have then go to the manacturers website and download the driver and follow the mentioned steps above.
Also if it is a new pc or has had some work done to it recently. Take the case off and push teh sound card in and make sure no wires are loose.

The *exact* thing happened to me -- all of a sudden, I had no sound (except dings), for no apparent reason. I tried suggestions from several sites - nothing worked. Finally I just reinstalled the entire Device Drivers folder on my Dell disk entitled "Drivers & Utilities Already Installed on Your Computer." I put the CD in my CD drive, clicked "run" from the start menu, browsed the CD drive, clicked the Drivers folder, and clicked the exe file (think it was called "Setup"). It didn't even ask me which ones I wanted, just installed a bunch of things then was done. Anyway, after I rebooted, everything works again. Hope this helps.
