Navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

If there is a DWoRD Value such "NoDispScrSavPage" with a data value of 1 this will disable the screen saver tab. Change the value to 0 or delete it to
see the tab again.
i see that you have the screensaver tab but see if there is anything else that looks like it is for the other tabs

Please keep us updated so we know if we helped you or not.

Thanks that fixed my problem. I know there's nothing wrong with my driver, I didn't bother reinstalling it. I am not a computer literal, I know that some spywares, disabled that just don't know how to bring them back. Thanks again aceisangeight and Thanks the rest that tried to help me <3

To be able to choose the desktop background again, simply remove the Wallpaper entry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

That fixed it for me.

I was having the same problem and fixed it in the following manner:

"NoDispBackgroundPage
and
NoDispAppearancePage

I've put'em both to 0"

Also, in the policies section, there was a key called something like "Wallpaper" with a value of "c:/bm.bmp" or something like that. I deleted teh Wallpaper key and then I could change the background again.

YEAH! i had some weird virus that put all kinds of short-cuts on my desktop, i got rid of that (just look in the Add/Remove software) but i couldn't get my tabs to work, and there was this weird prog. called "WB.exe" in my C:\ so i deleted that, and then deleted these:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

Everything in there except (default) (duh..)

Many thanks to all you here ^_^

I can see this being a problem to many people as it has had me pulling my hair out all day, i cant thank the ppl whove posted above enough, i do think it could of been explained better though...

resolving the fake blue screen desktop and missing tabs in the display properties window:

(all words do NOT include the 'quotes')

1) click 'start' then 'run'

2) type in 'regedit'

3) a scary looking thing loads, on the left there is a few folders named HKEY somethingorother, click HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then 'software', then 'microsoft', then 'windows' then 'currentversion', then click 'policies', and finally click 'system'

4) 5 icons should now have appeared on the right (see pic here: http://www.insomniafm.co.uk/upload/files/v2/./userfiles/DjSylva/regedit1.JPG)

5) double click the files NoDispBackgroundPage and NoDispAppearancePage and change their value from 1 to 0

6) delete the file wallpaper REG_SZ

7) close regedit

hopefully ive been helpful

once again thankyou very much everyone

I've been trying to fix a friend's very sick pc that (amongst many other problems) also had the fake blue screen desktop and now has missing display tabs. I tried Andy's fix but there is no system folder, and a search of the registry for NoDispBackgroundPage failed to find anything. Any ideas anyone?

Hi there

This is a trojan or varient of the bube.d (aka w32.beavis)
It will drop loads of spyware on your system and as i know, currently there is only 1 program that can safely remove the trojan without messing up your explorer.exe file (which is what the trojan edits in the first place)

Go there and that will tell you everything you need to know about this trojan and how to remove and resolve it.

I removed everything using a bunch of tools

REGEDIT
i went into the registry and removed all the funny looking items in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RUN. Then, using the info from this post, i went in and fixed my display.

SYSINTERNALS PROCESS MONITOR
I killed all of the strange programs running in memory. (i actually then went and renamed the file to killme-filename.exe for later deletion.

LAVASOFT ADAWARE
It removed a TON of spyware!!!!

SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY
This did too! I also enabled the tea-timer registry monitor

AVG ANTIVIRUS
Found around 10 viruses after i cleaned it up

HIJACK THIS
removed the browser hijack stuff that everything else didnt get.

WINDOWS UPDATE
my computer is now updated to the latest patch so this hopefully won't happen again.
