When I turn on my PC it goes to a screen that says missing or corrupt
system32\DRIVERS\pci.sysI have put in two different XP cd's to try and get to the repair installtion. It boots off the cd and starts to load the files as it would on any install. Just before it gets to the place where it would ask you to install or repair. The screen goes blank and then right back to saying "missing or corrupt
system32\DRIVERS\pci.sys" Is there any way I can get this file back on my hard drive so it will boot?I have tryed to go to safe mode but it comes up with missing system32\drivers\pci.sys. If I can copy this file onto a floppy and then to hard drive what commands do I use to copy it from floopy to hard drive
Thanks,
Steve

When you put in the XP CD and it boots off the cd, the XP setup files copy across, and at the 1st screen, you should be able to choose Repair. Press r, and this will start the Recovery Console.
When you are in the recovery console, choose your Windows installation (You will see what I mean when you follow the instructions.)
When you are sitting at the command line(C:\>Windows), access your CDROM drive by typing the letter followed by a colon, eg "D:". It may also be E:, F:, or G:.
When you have changed to the CDROM drive, type the following:
cd\ <enter>
cd\i386 <enter>
expand pci.sy_ C:\pci.sys <enter>
C: <enter>
cd\ <enter>
copy pci.sys C:\windows\system32\drivers <enter>
If it asks to replace, confirm. Then restart your computer. If it finds more files missing, you may need to replace them using the same procedure.
Please respond if this helped. :)

I am unable to get that far. It boots off the cd and starts to load the files as it would on any install. Just before it gets to the place where it would ask you to install or repair. The screen goes blank and then goes right back to saying "missing or corrupt system32\drivers\pci.sys
Thanks,
Steve
