missing system32 file

OS: winxp pro
CPU/Ram: 1.3gig/512

Hi,

Everytime i load windowsxp i get prompted with a message that winnt/system32/system32.exe is missing. How can I get back this file without losing any data?

Thankyou kindly to anyone who can help me :)

system32.exe is a virus, not a real system file. Apparently you had it, but now your system cant find it on the hard drive. There's probably a registry entry telling it to load at Windows start. Try running Ad-Aware or AVG Anti-virus. Or look under these:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Run

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Run

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ RunServices

Oh, and the virus is a worm. Get a firewall or its just gonna come back!!
