hi
open msconfig, start/run type msconfig
/services tab

remote procedure (RPC),call is it ticked?
it should be.

failing that it really does depend on why rpcss missing in the hardware profile in the first place, i would try setting up a new user account, 1st to test is it missing because of the printer driver install or somthing else like a virus.

could try this, back up registry 1st
http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/
understand how to use erunt ,
& at your own risk,
using regedit modify start up of rpcss

The reg key in Winxp to set the start mode of RPC is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSs. Edit the
"Start" Value to "2" for automatic right click modify set value to 2 ,save, reboot.

rpcss should be running,
regards
