CPU/Ram: Athlon64 3500+ / 1GB
Comment:

A friends computer is showing 128MB in the system properties window (which explains the slowness), but according to CPU-Z it has 512MB in 2 sticks of 256MB each. It's Samsung PC800 RAMBUS RAM if that makes a difference. I've never come across this before where Windows doesn't agree with another program. I didn't have time to look inside to see what memory it actually has, but I'm sure it is the 512 (it's a machine that I built for them a while ago, and I'm sure I'd have noticed if system properties was only reporting 128 at the time).

Any suggestions why Windows cannot see the RAM yet CPU-Z can?

re-seat the memory chips. if this doesn't help, download memtest86, unzip and create a bootable CD from the ISO image. boot from CD and run the tests.

OK cheers, I'll try that when I'm round there again (may not be for a while). Any other suggestions if that doesn't work, just in case?

If the computer has integrated graphics that can use up to 128GB of RAM.

During a boot, watch the bios memory check and see how high it goes. Note that it might quit when it gets to several failing locations.

You might have to turn off the 'Fast Boot' option.

The graphics is an AGP card so has its own memory, but I'll reseat the RAM, check the BIOS and do memtest next time I see them, thanks for the information.

look at the boot.ini. Look for a maxmem switch and delete it since this is used to limit the reported memory.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search
