Comment:

Earlier today I tried installing RAM, After doing so with clear instructions I booted my pc.. I got the message, Windows could not start because the following files is missing or corrupt:
<Windows Root>\system32\ntoskrntl.exe
Please reinstall a copy of the above file.

I have looked at many other solutions to this, Saying I should put the OS disk in from boot, Open BIOS etcetera.. This never works And I cannot access anything at all.

Please help? Is my computer totally busted? ><..

Much Appreciated.

I managed to get into the Setup Utility, But it still doesn't let me run the OS disk and find the missing file. Can anyone help?

Have you tried removing the RAM you installed?

Sometimes hardware based problems show themselves with messages like you are getting that aren't really the problem.

If all you did was add RAM then I suspect it might be bad and that is causing this error message.

Yes, I did so about 20 minutes from this post (now). Now my pc won't work at all. When I turn it on the tower makes about 5 noises and then stops, The monitor will not start either.. I have returned all cables to their previous state. One thing is that I MAY have forgot to push the DIMM pins down.. But I don't see how that could affect system start-up.

This may help if you can get into the recovery console.

"One thing is that I MAY have forgot to push the DIMM pins down.. But I don't see how that could affect system start-up."... Well. Are you sure that the RAM you installed was indeed compatible with your system?

Not sure what the "turn on screen thing" is. Can you clarify?

Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

Urm.. Sorry 'bout that. I meant like, When I turn my pc on.. And then the monitor loads.. Then it has things like press F12 to open Setup Utility Etcetera. That's the `turn on screen thingy`.

I worked out that my monitor wasn't going on because it is in Power safe mode, However... When it says press any key or move the mouse to make the screen go back.. Nothing happens.

I don't think anyone is gonna have the solution to this. Thanks anyways.

Casey.

Try another video card. You may have knocked it loose or damaged it when you were changing the memory.

Yeah.. But that still doesn't change the fact that my ntoskrnl file is lost. And I can't access the OS cd to repair.
