Comment:

I accidentally deleted my NTLDR file and compounded the problem by attempting to reboot. Computer no longer boots up due to the missing NTLDR file.

Anyway, I am attempting to restore the file with the repair CD. I boot-up using the repair CD, wait for drivers to load, enter my operating system version and then it asks for the Administrator Password. Problem is I never entered an Administrator Password.

Anyone know a way around this? Is there a default Administrator Password???

Thanks,
Derick

Did you try hitting enter? There is no administrator password by default. Just last I installed Win2K onto a 2nd HDD in my system, we all know that if you install Win2K after XP in a dual boot it wacks XP. Well I used the recovery console to copy NTLDR and NTDETEC.COM back to the C:\drive to get XP working again. Moral of story, it asked for the Administrator password which was never set, so a simple press of the enter key and away it went.

Yes, I hit enter but unfortunately that is used as an "escape" and stops the recovery program from running. Program says "Type Administrator Password to enter Recovery, hit ENTER to cancel".

You running XP Home or Pro? I don't know if the NTLDR file differs or not but I or someone else could e-mail it to you. It is only 218K in size.

I take it you have a recovery CD and not a full version of XP eh? I still don't see why someone or I can't e-mail you a copy of the file.

I have XP Home. The "Recovery CD" allows you to do a clean install of XP or repair XP. Since I have a lot of data on the hard-drive, I don't want to do a clean install. If you could email me the file that would be great (email below). I think I can simply put it in anywhere on the C drive correct?
