Hi everyone. I have a little problem and was hoping someone can help me. First, I just want to say that I did a search on this forum and read all the posts but none of them were solved. Ok, on with my situation.
I have Windows XP installed in my computer and can't delete my history. I have searched and located the history folder in My Computer >> C Drive >> Windows >> Temp >> History. Now, when I open up the history folder I find this folder named "History.IE5". I open up that folder and find nothing except an index file. The thing I don't get is why do I have this History.IE5 folder when I have Internet Explorer 6. I tested this out on a friend's Win 98 and found out his history folder was filled with files, pictures of sites he'd visited.
Hope you can find the answer to this problem as I'm sure many people are dying to know as well.

G'day Compwhiz, you may find that all references to IE in the registry are IE5 and many for IE4. Also there is in the TIF the Content.IE5 hidden folder. I suspect it's just laziness on the part of MS programmers who did not feel it was worth changing the registry data inside the files that give these locations.
Even a IE6 update over IE5 in Win 98 still yields all registry stuff as IE5 or IE4, even the uninstall string.
Actually your History , Cookies and TIF should be in the Docs & Sets\username folder by default and several other sub folders in there also but many people get it in the temp folder as well...I did not.
Perhaps if you deleted the History folder in the Temp folder from DOS [using a boot disc] it might correct itself when the Registry and Wininet.dll [the file that creates the cache folders] loads when you reboot.
