I have tried to set up a destroyer xtreme joystick. I get a message 'missing game port or game port driver -see device manager'.What does this mean? How do I set up the joystick on XP? Can I use it for playing Harry Potter or Riven?

You might need to go to device manager and see if there are any yellow ! marks. To get to device manager hit start and right click on my computer and go to properties. Hit the hardware tab at the top and then clickon device manager in the middle on the right. Here is where you will see if there is a problem with the driver. If there is any ! marks there you need to r-click on that line and go to properties, and see if you have it enabled and also you might want to update the driver. To update the driver just follow the instructions when you click on update driver.
