Have You allowed XP to detect the new hardware? this calls for a couple of re-boots. while the box is off, disconnect the data and power cable from the dvd drive, then turn on computer, then turn off again, re-connect the drive, turn the computer back on, and see if XP will detect it.

If at first you don't succeed, hide all knowledge you even tried.

Also, you may have to check the jumper switches on the back of the drives. Is the new DVD drive on the same cable as your hard drive? If so, make sure one drive is jumpered as "Master" (usually the hard drive) and the other as "Slave." If your new DVD drive is on a data cable by itself, you may have to set it as "Master" on the secondary IDE channel. (You should see information in your BIOS concerning drives on the primary and secondary IDE channels.)
