Missing desktop icons

OS: xp home
CPU/Ram: 256 - 40 gig
Comment:

Installed Microsoft anti spyware and all my desktop icons disappeared. I have tried everything in control panel and from the taskbar and desktop, clicking eerything I could but no icons appear.

right click on desktop, goto desktop tab and click customise desktop and select the required icons.

Try System Restore to a time before the install.

I'd dump Microsoft anti spyware as I think it may be still in the Beta stages....more trouble than it's worth.

ferz, Looks like your other post was deleted. Try using the problem user's desktop and right click it, choose Propertiies>Arrange icons by and checkmark "Show desktop icons".

I had done all the actions mentioned above but icons still would not appear, and I could not create desktop shortcuts. I resorted to system restore to a time before MS spyware was installed and the desktop is OK again, except the MS spyware did something to the homepage.

dump MS antispy like I mentioned and the run this On-line Spyware Scan
and remove all it finds.

Re-Set your Hompage....

IE Properties - General Tab - type in the Address of your HomePage

Lesley, I cannot type in my home page in the locatin you mention because it is grayed out. I have tried to do it in other places but it wont work. As I said in my other post, IE properties on the General Tab in Internet Options is grayed out, as well as the buttons for current, blank, and default.
