Insert WinXP cd/dvd in drive and boot.Follow the instruction carefully and Press R to repair the installation.It will take some time to copy the contents from Cd and reboot will repair the installation.Remove CD soon after restart.

Pressing R will bring up the Recovery Console. From there, you have to know which commands to type in. Since dynamitx didn't bother to include any instructions, my guess is he's telling you to reinstall XP using the "Repair Installation" method. Doing so *should* fix the problem. It will leave all your files & programs intact but you will lose all the Windows updates you received over the months (or years) you've had your system. They will all have to be redownloaded.
