I have a dual boot Win 98 and WinXP. I have one hard drive that is partitioned into two. Win 98 is on the C:\ and WinXP is on the D:\. The bootsect.dos got deleted and I need to know how to replace it. When I'm at the Dual boot menu, only WinXP loads. When I try to load Win98, it says it's missing the bootsect.dos
Thanks For Your Help
Eric

Hi,
I had the same probably a while back. I also had Win98 on the C partition and WinXP on the D. Here's what I did:
First start your computer using a Win98 boot disk. From the A:\ promt, type in "sys c:" this will tell your computer to load Win98 instead of WinXP. Restart. Your computer should now load Win98. Once in Win98 load the WinXP installation from the WinXP CD. Choose to install WinXP on an extra drive. Then just click through the steps, and the computer should reboot. When it reboots, the boot screen should be back, with the three options, Win98, WinXP, and WinXP Setup. I think you have 5 seconds to choose a OS. The default loading is WinXP Setup. Just load WinXP instead. Then just go into the Control Panel>System>Advanced>Startup and Recovery>Settings and just edit the boot.ini so you can delete the WinXP Setup from the boot menu.
I'm not sure if you could do the same without an extra hard drive. You might be able to set the WinXP installation to install on the current XP installation, but it could be risky, so I wouldn't do it unless you know for sure of what's going to happen. Hope this helps someone.
Eric
