Missing boot files

Hi,
I recently added a new user account and wanted to move the My Documents folder to another drive. In doing so, I accidentally moved it to the root of C:\ and without thinking, moved it to the location I originally wanted. On doing so, Windows has also moved all system files (boot.ini, ntdetect.com etc.) in the root to the new location too. I'm pretty sure I've moved or replaced the files but the system hangs before reaching the logo screen. Have I missed something?

Initially perhaps see if last known good config allows you in?
Failing which - perhaps run the XP repair - fixboot routine? This may restore the misplaced (or otherwise...) system files?
Or perhaps a system restore?
Or a repair routine that checks the system files fully; restoring/replacing any missing/damaged files? In effect a re-install over the current version...?
