Can you open a microsoft word doc if you have forgoten the password to open it.

Yes.
The password protection is not that secure.

You would have more security if you rename the file "my.doc"
to say....."my.zoo". If someone tried to open it it would show up as an invalid archive.

My reply is based on thinking you want to have a secure word doc and not that you want to see someone else's file.
