I had my Microsoft Windows Update set to download but notify me when ready to install ,upon shutting down my PC I was notified with a litte sheild that updates where downloaded and ready to install . My PC frooze up during this process and I had to perform a forced shut down ! The Microsoft web site shows that these updates Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 KB953297
and KB974455 Cumulative Security Update have failed installation 4-5 times . Now everytime I sut down my PC on the shut down button is the little sheild to install these updates , I've been using the option at the bottom of the shut down procss that allows you to shut down without installing any updates . Apprently these downloads are corrupt and will not install . My ? is how do I get them off my PC ? Microsofts Update site shows these updates as downloaded and ready for installation ,since they have not installed they are not in the ADD/Remove Programs Utility. The first time I booted up after the forced shut down my sound was not working(no speaker icon on taskbar) ,my TV Tuner card was not being detected, my desktop had changed resolution and my 7 port USB hub also lost its detection ? I used my Dell Utility CD to re-install the sound and other driveers ,upon reboot my mouse and several other hardware devices aurtomaticially re-installed themselves ,I reconfigured my desktop manually . I would have tried a system restore B/4 I performed all of this however I believe due to Norton's Security Suite my System Restore has never worked it always fails at any restore point I chose ? If somoeone could supply me with instructions on how to remove these updates from my system it would be greatly appreciated ,No Iam not making this stuff up and I barely have time to type this post, this happen early in the week and I've been meaning to post here at computing.net because I believe its the best place for PC help !
Thank You ,Nick

Maybe a system restore to a time before the problem would help.

All you have to do is delete the files...they're in a temp update folder. Get rid of Norton too.

Well I opened Windows Explorer and made sure that under tools /folder options I have it set to show hidden files ! Also under Program files there is a Windows Update folder and its empty ? However when I open C:/Windows in Windows Explorer there is a bunch of these $NtUninstallKB885835$ with differant KB #'s at the very start for the Windows setup. When I expand it there are three files one .exe one .inf setup file and one text file ? Is this normal or is my install of Windows not laid out correctly ,however I certainly am not going to do another re-install of the O/S and go thru all of the reinstalling of my programs and updates when everything I use this PC for is working just fine ! Please give me your opinion on why my Explorer is set up this way or where I can fint the temp update folder ? Why is my Windows Update folder empty ? In the control panel ADD/Remove programs I have alot of updates showing as installed and also when I use the Bel-Arc Advisor it verifies many updates as installed properly ,out of dozens of updates only 2 have a red X with a reinstall propmpt next to them KB963027-I.E.7 & KB969897-I.E.7 I have another version of KB969897 for I.E.8 which verifies installed correctly. Version IE 8 is the version of I.E. Explorer Iam using ! I cannot uninstall the two updates that Bel-Arc Advisor says need to be reinstalled becasuse they do not show up in ADD/Remove Programs ? Please reply with more information, it as always would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You Nick
