microsoft update stucks

Comment:
Last update date from microsoft site is October 27, 2006 for my Pc. Whenever I manually try to update the system, microsoft checks the system validity, prints ok, then reads express or custom update layouts. I tried express and custom updates separately several times, but nothing happens at many hours. I noticed that during this period, I checked the task manager and found wauclt.exe takes 99% of CPU time thus no other processes can take place. If I kill that process, then update page returns me that it failed(sensible, because it is the process that manages update itself). Does anyone have the clue to help me to update my system. Thanks in advance...

Even better is this program 'Auto Patcher'.
First install must be a 'Full Release' and after that you just download the update. It uses different color codes to show what is installed already, what is optional, etc and you can select or deselect any update for install. These are usually ready a few weeks after Microsoft releases them. Awesome free service!.

Curious does Auto Patcher check your copy of XP as a condition for getting the updates?

OK I was just curious Some poster here told us that Softwarepatcher routinely perform WGA check so I thought maybe Autopatcher do the same thing too as a condition for M$ not tearing down the site.
