Hi
I have Microsoft Office Professional 2 CD Upgrade (Genuine) but when I try to install it, after entering the product key, it says Compliance Check and is searching for another Microsoft CD because I don't have Microsoft Word on the Computer. I inserted Windows 95 for the compliance check but it rejected this. How do I get around this compliance check?
Many thanks

I assume you are talking about MS Office 2007 Upgrade. The workaround for compliance check is detailed in the following MS knowledgebase article (with M$ blessings)

Do you own any other MSoft Office products. The link XPUser provided lists the qualifying products. If you don't own one of the qualifying products you MAY be out of luck. Did the Dell come with any of the products listed below.

Microsoft® Works 6.0 – 10
Microsoft Works Suite 2000 – 2006 or later
Any 2000 – 2007 Office program or suite
Any Microsoft Office XP Suite

You're right Othehill - I forgot the Upgrade version will work only if the OP has one of the qualifying products specified in the following link. Preinstalled OEM does not qualify.

You could buy an older version of Works like the one I am linking below. Still cheaper than buying the full version of Office 2007.

Just a personal observation. I tried Office 2007 and it is so bloated I went back to 2003. Works just as well without all the eye candy and bloatware.
By the way, It was a very tedious process to remove 2007. It loads the registry so bad it took me an hour to get rid of it.

I haven't used 2007 but I had someone send me files in the docx format and I had a hell of a time with them. Giant step backward IMO.

I agree with per, Office 2007 is very bloated and so very slow. I would just get the "docx converter" for Office 2003 and stick with that.

Just a note on installing the converter. If you do that, you'll need to uninstall it before upgrading to 2007 (if you decide to go that route.) I've heard NOTHING but complaints from my users in regard to Office 2007, and I must agree with them. I'm not normally averse to upgrading, but I plan to stick with Office 2003 at home and on some of my machines at work, and only run 2007 on a test machine.

The only good thing I can say about Office 2007 is that at least Outlook is pretty much the same.

Life's more painless for the brainless.

I don't think a P2 meets this and 256 mb just barely does.

hi

thanks for your posts.

i forgot to mention that my genuine upgrade 2 CD set is called Microsoft Office 2000 Professional. This is adequate for me but I still need a solution when the screen pops up and says "Upgrade Compliance Check, Windows did not find any qualifying products on your system - Please insert a CD Rom which is an MS qualifying product or select Browse"

I used to insert Word 97 as the qualifying product and then just continued to install my MS Office 2000 Professional Upgrade.

Could you advise what to do? any links?

Many thanks

Hi
No, I sold my Word 97 ages ago.
I only have the Microsoft Office 2000 Professional upgrade 2 CD's now.
I need a solution if possible by Wednesday.
Kind regards

I gave you one option. I gave a cursory search on qualifying products for Office 2000 and didn't come across anything. The product I linked to should be more than enough. You may be able to get by with something even older or cheaper. There is no way to bypass the requirement that I know of.

BTW I have Office 2000 profesional and it is only on CD. What is on the second CD you have?

In all the Office 2000 installations I've done, the second CD in the set contains Microsoft Publisher.

Hi
This is bizarre. I put the 1st CD in the drive and entered the product key and when I got to the screen where it says "compliance check, no qualifying products could be found on your computer - please select the drive where the qualifying product can be found", I inserted the 2nd CD and then it said install now!, so I took the 2nd CD out and put the 1st CD back in, and it gave and error message, so i just closed the error message and clicked continue and it installed! The 2nd CD has on it Microsoft Publisher, Small Business Customer Manager and Shared Clip Art.
What do you think of that?
Regards

It used the publisher software on the second disk as a "qualifying product" for the upgrade, so you should be fine.

M$ did some other strange things with their update Cd's. If you have an upgrade version of XP, you can use a Windows 98 startup floppy disk as the qualifying product. Never made much sense to me. LOL

Larry -

Now you heard it. See paragraph 7 in the following link

P.S. I believe there is a typo in Musky's post. The qualifying product is actually Win 98 Full installation CD.

Hey XPUser! Happy New Year!

Believe it or not, I was installing an upgrade version of XP on a computer and couldn't find my Win98 CD when it asked for a qualifying product, so for the heck of it, I pointed it to the Windows98 startup floppy I had used to boot up and load CD drivers since the XP upgrade was not bootable, and Lo and behold, it accessed the floppy and then continued with the install! I was very surprised, but tried it a few more times later during installations and it worked then too!

It shouldn't have, but it did. :)
