Hey all. Just tried a dry run test online for the exam 70-270 (windows XP). Came across this question and surely the correct answer should be D?! Am I going mad?
1. You are the administrator at a small network environment with 8 Windows XP clients in a workgroup. You want to create a shared folder located on a FAT32 volume on one of the clients and use share permissions to protect it. When you open the Properties sheet of the folder you are about to share, you notice you are able to share the folder but there is not an option to assign share permissions to individual groups and users. What should you do?
a. After sharing the folder, switch to the Security tab and set appropriate permissions.
b. Disable the Use simple file sharing option in Folder Options.
c. Protect the Shared Folder with a password and give this password only to the users that need access.
d. Convert the FAT32 volume to NTFS.
Answer(s): b. Disable the Use simple file sharing option in Folder Options.
Your Answer(s): d. Convert the FAT32 volume to NTFS.
Explanation:
A Windows XP client that is not a member of a domain uses Simple File Sharing by default. If you want to set advanced options such as permissions, caching and a user limit, you need to disable this option first. From the Tools menu in My Computer choose Folder Options, disable the option Use simple file sharing on the View tabThanks for your help in the mean time.

It does not matter if the drive is FAT32 or NTFS.
Either file system being used will not allow you to set permissions on the folder with simple file sharing enabled.
The permissions button on the sharing screen will not show up under simple file sharing, so you must first disable it.
If at first you dont fix it, Try harder!
