I have a yellow mark next to my CDROM LITE-ON device in the DEVICE MANAGER. The drive is not seen in MY COMPUTER nor can I use it.
After several support emails back and forth with Lite-On they said something probably is wrong with the registry and to find out what error code 41 means. Does anybody know?
What else should I do?
Bill

A google search produced this:
Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
A driver was loaded but Windows cannot find the device. This happens when Windows does not detect a non-Plug and Play device.
If the device was removed, uninstall the driver, install the device, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver. If the hardware was not removed, obtain a new or updated driver for the device. If the device is a non-Plug and Play device, a newer version of the driver might be needed. To install non-Plug and Play devices, use the Add Hardware wizard. Click Performance and Maintenance on Control Panel, click System, and on the Hardware tab, click Add Hardware Wizard.
On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooting wizard.

If this is a new install, did you install the drive's cable upside down?
If the drive has been working and suddenly quit, you probably have a dead drive.

This long winded link is from MS explaining all the error codes.
I would tend to think the IDE cable is broke as IDE cable are keyed and can not be installed upside down. A second thought is it's not getting power. Check both of these and then follow the directions to reinstall the device...I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid...
