Ever since I install XP Pro a week a go, Microsoft Chat cannot connect. I installed the latest java for XP which evidently was not the solution. Would appreciate your expertise!

What is Microsoft Chat? I never heard of it. Is it outdated sofware or do you mean Windows Messenger? It it is something that Microsoft had in the past and got rid of I would say that chances are good that it will never work with XP Pro.

I had not used it in 2 or 3 years, and wanted to get back into it. I read that Microsoft had discontinued it in Europe, but I'm in the U.S. Thanks for taking the time to bring me up to date! Would you be able to recommend a similar chat where I could chat with strangers?

AIM, ICQ, & MSN are all the top chat progs now. MSN (ie. Windows Messanger) should have come installed with XP. These programs are good for chatting with people who's screen names you know, but if you want to chat with "strangers" as you said. I would reccomend going to Yahoo.com and using their chat rooms and their Y! chat program.

Trillian is the best thing on the planet. I couldn't live without it. Trillian PRO is worth every penny.
If you brought it up I assume you know that all of the above services work with trillian.
