Alright, I've tried everything so if all you can offer me as a solution is to make sure it is unmuted and the sound is up in the volume control.. then you are no help to me.

I've done all of it.. turned up the volume on everything, made sure it is not muted, made sure it was selected, made sure everything matched, made sure my driver was working (I get sound, I can hear music, etc I just can't record), I tried a different microphone and I've made sure there are no conflicts between my driver.

Yes, it all worked fine before I upgraded to XP.

So my problem is now that I've upgraded it won't work. Please make sure you read this message carefully before replying with solutions because if you offer one that I've said I've already done then that will be depressing. If you have a solution please email me, I really need to have my microphone running for some projects I'm working on.

Hi Jessica,
The problem might be that you upgraded your OS. Win XP can cause numerous problems with an upgrade installation. It likes to have a fresh installation.
I would suggest you go to Microsoft and under the knowledge base in support do a search for microphone/sound problems.
Also there are a lot of others in the forum that might have experienced the same problem. You could try the Search on the left of this page for your problem.
Sorry I can't pinpoint the exact cause, but maybe you will find what you need from my suggestions.
good luck,
XDon

It sounds like you need to upgrade to an XP compatible driver.

been there, done that...i had the same problem - right click the volume control in the taskbar - open volume controls - in the options tab make sure the 'advanced controls' is checked - then under the microphone volume control click the advanced button and in the new window check the box marked '20db microphone boost'. Let me know if that works or not. Thanx

Hey ,Jessieleska. I don't think you will find one. If you buy a new card to suit Xp, about Aus$50 ,it has an installation disc that is auto run.If you buy one ask to make sure .Mine was a breeze

One thing u haven't mentioned (tho u prob already checked) is to ensure the correct record device is setup in Control Panel/Sounds & Audio Devices/Voice tab.

You may have more than one device in the drop-down list !?!?!

From here u can also go through a 'Test Hardware' wizard which might help (but prob won't lol)

GoodLuck

Jessileska, I didn't ever ask if you had a built-in microphone or not. If it's built in, the problem is that you probably have to upgrade your soundcard driver to a driver compatible with XP. If this is the case, I doubt you'll find one because from my experience it's very difficult to find soundcard drivers.

If the microphone is stand alone it could just be the microphone's driver.

Either way, try these sites to find a driver:
http://www.windrivers.com/
http://www.driverzone.com/
http://www.drivershq.com/

Also check the website for your soundcard and/or microphone's manufacturer for drivers. In fact, that's where you should check first...
