Good day all.

I've been having trouble with my microphone input in my front and back panel of my sound card on my computer.

It's been almost 3-4 months or so, since my microphone as worked properly. At any moment in which I insert my microphone into my mic input, all the sound on my computer is cut off and there is nothing coming out of my speakers, neither does the microphone take any sound. All sound is null.

I tried updating my drivers, no use.
I tried using another microphone and still no change.

My sound card is the ALC850 from RealTek
Or maybe it is the nForce 3. It does indeed say that the Hardware model is the nForce 3 and the codec is ALC850 but still I don't know where to go from this point. It’s an integrated sound card.

Thank you for the help.
Andrew

Normally an integrated sound card does not function with a front panel jack. It is jumpered on the motherboard to be either back panel or front panel but normally not both.

You will have to have the manual for the mobo in order to set the jumpers correctly.

Now, it is possible that you have a proprietary boar from Dell/HP/orgateway or someone else that allows the sound to be channeled to front and rear panels at the same time. These are usually done within the bios and this maybe the issue that you have.

Check with your manufaturer for a bios update.

NOTE..........be sure to read and understand what to do for a bios update to your computer or you may render it totally useless, and be sure to back it up prtor to updating.

another option is to Rt.click on the speaker icon (near clock) and select properties...in the "volume tab" select "advanced" button and then in the next view select "options" then select properties and a new box will show all the possibilities with the sound. Check the boxes that you wish to see or use and the apply and ok out. then open the sound panel back up and make sure the mic and all the others haven't been muted.

Plugging it in, and unplugging, will over time wear out the socket.
