Comment:
When I went to test the hardware in the VOICE RECORDING section of SOUNDS & AUDIO DEVISES, I got an Error Code 0x 80004005: “occurred during DirectPlay Voice Setup – We can not execute Dpvsetup.exe, use ADD/REMOVE PROGRAM CONTROL PANEL TO INSTALL” I can’t find that file anywhere for installing.
For that error code, the Microsoft website suggested resetting the HARDWARE ACCELERATION (in the ADVACED PERFORMANCE section of VOICE PLAYBACK) all the way over to the right, but it was already at that setting and changing it in various positions was of no help.

Thanx 4 the great advise; progress is being made. The dxdiag showed that my Audigy SoundBlaster's "Kernel Mode" is "No" & "Supports DLS" is "No," but "External" is "Yes." Now what say?
Thanx again, Ira

I did what you suggested, K1365. The Windows XP Pro “dxdiag” shows that my Audigy SoundBlaster's "Kernel Mode" is "No" & "Supports DLS" is "No," but "External" is "Yes."
Now, where do I go from here (other than perdition)?
In DEVICE MANAGER, I have discovered that the MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLER is not installed. I tried to install the driver from my WINDOWS XP-PRO installation disc, but the computer can not find it there.
