Hi all, I use this laptop for my gigs, and I have tried and tried to search for a program to process my vocals in "real time" to add effects to my vocals. I have tried many many ways in google to search for such a program, but no joy. surely there must be an xp friendly mic processor to do the job??? Maybe i'm typing the wrong thing i don't know. Can anyone help? Many thanks for looking.

Google "real time effects" and you will get tons of hits although for the life of me can't imagine why you are using your laptop to do this. The sound card on laptops are horrible and certainly not anywhere near pro quality. You could probably find a used effects unit for pretty cheap at any decent music store.

lol. thanks kurt. good thing is, my lappy's sound card isn't bad, but also, the people i sing to are pub punters, and after an hour, they're too drunk to complain. but i get a good pay for it, so it's worth it lol. and the pubs mixing equipment is way worse than mine or any bad sound card, so any improvement is a good 1 lol. many thanks.

Cool Edit Pro, which is now Adobe Audition, does not do real time effects.

I run karaoke gigs from my laptop, but there's no way I'd run my mics through it. Any real-time effects would be applied to everything going through the sound card, including the music. You'd be better off using an external effects processor between the mic and the sound card. There are plenty of cheap ones available that would do the job. If you're earning good money from your gigs, a small investment wouldn't go astray.
