Hello everyone,

I have installed skype on my lap, and it was the first time i wanted to use the microphone. However, my voice can either be heard in phone calls or recorded through the robot tester. In the begining skype would give me the msg "Skype can not hear your voice check that your mic is not muted" Aparently i have a Realtek Audio AC97. I tried different remedies which are stated in no order and at some point skype gave me the msg that the input volume of the mic is to low.

Remedies: I checked the volume of the mic in the volume menu, I checked if the device is working, which is enabled then I used msn test and it did not worked either. I used win help to set up the mic and in the speech in the control panel i do not have this recomended menu Speech: Recognition tab:, click Audio Input:, and then click Properties. instead only one tab: text to speech and audio output. I checked audio output and select the specific device Realtek Audio AC97 and i have unchecked the mute mic there, still no result.

My last idea is that maybe the mic slot is damaged...but please any ideas for settings or drivers missing or anything in order to eliminate software prob would be of a great assistance!

Thanks jO

hi
have you ticked mic boost ?
http://agnradmin.umd.edu/iet/IETSer...

check that see if it makes a difference. if not

a cheap option is to use a usb phone , by-pass the mic altogether , unless you really need it.

Hmmmm. So if you double-click the speaker icon in the tray, then make sure the volume is turned up on the mic and it's not muted, you can hear yourself through the speakers/headphones?

A shot in the dark: Is there an icon in the Control Panel that says something like AC' 97 Audio Configuration? If so, double-click it. Click the different tabs until you see pictures of the 3 inputs on the back of your system. There should be a button beside each jack. Click the button beside the Microphone if there is one. I think the Mic jack can be used for more than just a mic. It's been awhile since I used AC' 97 audio, so forgive me for being somewhat vague.

You could try to uninstall/reinstall the integrated sound. Go to Start>Run, type devmgmt.msc and press enter. Expand Sound, video, and game controllers. Right-click Realtek AC' 97 Audio or similar, and click Uninstall. Click OK on the confirmation dialogs. Reboot the machine.

Thanks for your efforts folks..means a lot to me to feel i am not alone.
Yes mic boost is ticked.
In the AC' 97 Audio Configuration manager the recognise the speaker, the next tab which says line in connector it says no signal and in the mic says that the mic is not connect even though it is.
Uninstall and reinstall the audio it is a little bit scary, since i don't think a have a back up with the drivers on the C:// and rebooting from the recovery CDs it is also scary i have not done it in the past...
So on the whole do you reckon i am stacked??...and i have already pay money in my skype account, and not being able to use it doesn't make me a happy bunny ;-((

I don't think there's anything to lose by uninstalling and reinstalling it. If you follow the steps mentioned above, Windows should reinstall it automatically from its driver cache upon reboot.
