Withing the last month I have been receiving the following error message, "The file or directory C:\$MFT is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility". The chkdsk utility runs automatically when the computer starts but is not fixing the error. I do have more than adequate free space on my hard drive. I've not installed any new software. Service Pack 2 has been on the computer for several months. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem (except not with my boot drive) i ran the chkdsk /r from the recovery console, but that didnt help, it just staed that the drive contained one or more unrecoverable errors, and quit.
The HDD (200Gig) is in a IDE->FireWire Caddie connected to my laptop, and has happened many times in the past resulting in a full format of the drive every few months
