hello,
i ve keep getting a strange message lately from my pc..."$mft corrupted file ..please run chkdsk utility. or $mft file corrupted,unreadable etc."i cant even run defragmenter ant it apears even before i put my login code!!!when i restart my pc the chkdsk runs but nothing happens.any suggestions?

Are you actually running chkdsk from the XP CD?

no jennifer it runs by itself when something goes wrong with the ntfs mft files before the windows loggin.
linuxos thank you very much!!!!you helped me solve the problem!!!i downloaded the testdisc utility and it fixed the mft files so that the chkdsk utility could actually work and fix the errors!!!
