Comment:

I have windows xp with broadband internet access. As the internet is always connected I am constantly receiving pop up messages from a variety of sources - mostly an advert for what looks like a porn site, 'janitagirl.cc'. These messages pop up every couple of minutes, not a lie, I have tried removing messenger service 4.2 but messages still pop up. the message is sent to my IP 62.xx.xx.xx. I do not know how these people have acquired my IP. Does any one else recieve these messages, and more importantly does anyone know how to stop them invading my computer screen.

To turn off the messenger service in XP:

1. Click on the Start button and open the control panel.
2. Open the Performance and Maintenance control panel and go to Administrative Tools.
3. Now double-click on Services, then scroll to Messenger.
4. Double-click Messenger and click Stop to stop the service.
5. Change the startup type to Disable.

Good luck

To uninstall Messenger (thereby preventing it from re-enabling itself):

Go to C:\Windows\in\sysoc.inf. Use a wordpad and make following change:

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7 CHANGE TO:
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7

JohnO the problem has nothing to do with MSN IM. It is a problem with "messenger service" which is not related in anyway to MSN IM. Just wanted to give you an FYI and what Abnormal already stated will resolve the problem.

This is for Messenger Service . . .

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

But the problem you described happened to me when I downloaded a "crack". It took over my machine. Popups were all porn.
