Comment:

I have high speed internet (always connected) and recently I have started getting these pop up dialog boxes titled "messenger service" which contain info about a variety of products. Is there a setting in Windows XP to prevent this from happening? It is becoming very annoying.

Thanks for any response.

Are you only getting the pop ups while your on the internet? Try a program called pop up stopper. If your getting pop ups when your not on the internet you might have a virus. go to housecall.antivirus.com
for a free virus scan.

This is the Network Messenger Service in XP. Its used for the Net. Administrator to send messages to computers, so if you arent on a network where you have to be sent messages, you should disable it .

you can send these messages by doing the following:

go to command prompt

type this: net send [ip address/domain] [message]

it's a lot of fun (aspesially when you send it to a server and it makes it pop up on every computer (fun at work or school)
