I keep getting this popup that comes randomly during the day in windows. It's called messenger service and it has an okay button and it's as if it were a messagebox, except it's an ad. I cannot get rid of it. I even formatted my HD and it's still popping up. It's annoying, and it interrupts my games, etc. I tried in the past scanning my computer with Ad-Aware, but it didnt detect anything. What can I do to remove this thing?

To turn off the messenger service in XP:

1. Click on the Start button and open the control panel.
2. Open the Performance and Maintenance control panel and go to Administrative Tools.
3. Now double-click on Services, then scroll to Messenger.
4. Double-click Messenger and click Stop to stop the service.
5. Change the startup type to Disable.

Hope this helps.

I get that too and it's extremely annoying--I am now also getting this pain in the butt screen that cuts my normal screen down by 1/4 and says "enhanced Searched results" at the top. Comes up when I search for something, does it when I search in Ebay also--any hints here?

Thanks. I had absolutely no clue that it was an in-Windows function. Why would they include something like that in xp?
