go to folder options, click VIEW. put a bullet in SHOW HIDDEN FILES.
open the Windows folder. open folder labeled INF. look for SYSOC. look for the line that says:
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll.ocentry.msmsgs.inf, hide, 7
and change it to:
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll.ocentry.msmsgs.inf,7
save it and close it.
go to add remove programs, windows components.
remove the check from messenger.

if it's not showing up under update root certificates, walk through the steps again. make sure you save after removing "hide".
you should see Windows Messenger under update root certificates.

It's really a nuisance ain't it? Anyway, after a few times it will stop popping by it self and getting on your nerves. If you want to make it disappear try searching the net. There is a VB script as far as I know.

Do a google search on "XP Antispy" Download the latest version. It disables about 20 XP auto-update, auto error reporting, auto time-sync, auto media codec and licensing updates, and completely uninstalls messenger. Basically it stops XP from secretly accessing the internet in the background. Good luck.
