Hi, I originally had windows me already on the C drive. I then installed windows xp on the d drive, giving me the option to dual boot. I then had a serious problem with drive c, so I formatted it, and reinstalled windows me. I have now no option to dual boot, I presume i've messed up the mbr.

Could some please tell be how i can recover from this situation, so I can once again acces windows xp, with the dual boot option.

Thank You!

If you reloaded ME on the C drive, you modified the MBR.

Start the install of XP again, but select the option to repair the previous install. If that does not fix it, then do a full reinstall of XP.

Or you can copy your boot.ini from your d drive to c drive that should fix the problem

Boot up into safe mode with command mode (or something like that)....when you get to the prompt there is a command to fix your master boot record (type help). I think it is called mbr.exe or something similar. Run it and it may fix your problem. Good luck

(XP is what you make it!)

go make a ERD ( emergency repair disk ) go start- program - acssisories - system tools _ backup - them creat ERD then boot from the cd and repair from the ERD
the second solution that is the best one to install teh recovery console ( go to start- run- cmd- then change the directory to the Cd - the type - winnt32/cmdcons -U will install it .
then restart the Pc and enter the reccovery console then after U enter type ( fixmbr )
